Let’s Rewind a Few Centuries
The first pair of rollerskates first was used in 1743 in London, England. They were part of a theatrical performance. Due to mysterious reasons, the founder and creator of this beautiful shoewear have been lost in time. Nobody knows who the inventor was. Regardless, the idea eventually got caught on in 1819 in France. The individual who patented this was M. Petitbled. These skates were the predecessors the inline style we are all familiar with today. However, the first designs of these skates were very difficult to remain in a straight line.
By 1863, the popular quad skate made its way to the states in New York City. It was such a hit that the first roller rink opened shortly after in the city. Over the rest of the century, the design of the roller skate was fine tuned with the addition of toe stops, which made it much easier for individuals to maneuver and control when they stop. This made skating way more enjoyable than it already was.
